John William Sinkey was known by some as John and others as Jack. He was appointed to the Naval Academy from Toledo, OH. While at the Academy, Jack roomed with Curt Silveus, who has very positive memories of him. Curt considered Jack to be quite gregarious. Jack had troubles adjusting to the stringent Academy lifestyle as well as problems with academics. He missed his family and girlfriend a great deal. His family owned their own business in Toledo and he was anxious to go back to work with them.

Jack left the Academy in March (1967) of his Plebe Year and unfortunately passed away in Fairbanks, Alaska on September 25, 1977, at the age of 30 years.
